Bridging Generations

The article in issue I, 2013, entitled “Bridging Generations,” pages 22–23, was fascinating and moving. Not only was it a good love story but it was historically and socially significant with its attachment to the Burma Road, the supply road from the west that kept allied China from total Japanese captivity during the Second World War. In addition the account of C. K. Chien’s life touches on the arbitrary barriers associated with nationalism and racism—some of which linger into the 21st century.

I read this great story to my wife of 62 years and she responded, “What a great motion picture this story would make.” Our thanks to the author, George Chien, for loaded memories of realities from history to help us all along the way.
